Raised in a well-educated family, he had the opportunity to study various disciplines from a young age, including law, language, philosophy, and history. The rich cultural environment of North Africa and Al-Andalus deeply influenced his intellectual development.
Ibn Khaldun began his career in politics, serving in various positions in the courts of rulers in Tunis, Morocco, and Al-Andalus. However, this life was unstable, as he faced numerous conflicts and intrigues. This led him to withdraw from politics and dedicate himself to scholarship and writing. This period marked a turning point in his life, during which he began developing his ideas about history and society.
His most famous work is the "Muqaddimah," considered one of the most important books in sociology and the philosophy of history. In this work, Ibn Khaldun introduced his theories on the rise and fall of civilizations and explained the concept of "asabiyyah" (social cohesion) as a key factor in the strength of societies. He also examined the impact of economics and environment on the development of civilizations, making him centuries ahead of his time.
Later, Ibn Khaldun moved to Egypt, where he lived in Cairo, worked as a judge, and taught at Al-Azhar. This period was among the most stable and productive phases of his life. He passed away in 1406 CE, leaving behind a vast intellectual legacy that continues to be studied and discussed around the world.
Today, Ibn Khaldun is regarded as the founder of modern sociology and one of the most influential thinkers in human history. His ideas have contributed significantly to understanding the nature and development of societies in a scientific and systematic way.
